Institutional membership scheme
PhysMath Central journal's are covered by the BioMed Central Membership scheme. BioMed Central Membership enables academic and research institutions, societies, groups, funders and corporations to actively support open access in scholarly publishing, and help ensure the most widespread dissemination of the research published by their investigators or members.
BioMed Central offers different types of membership, tailored to different types of customers:
- Prepay Membership is an advanced payment system whereby customers pay upfront for a number of articles to be processed and published. Upon publication, the full article processing charge for the journal in question, minus the discount that applies, will be deducted from the account. The higher the amount paid in advance, the greater the discount given.
- Supporters Membership Supporter members pay a flat rate annual membership fee based on the number of biological, medical and PhysMath researchers and graduate students at the institution.
If you and your organisation want to see a change in the way that research is published and disseminated, and wish to be a part of that change, you should seriously consider taking out an institutional membership.
If you are a scientist who would like your institution, company or society to become a member, simply fill out our recommendation form to suggest this to the relevant person in your organisation.
What are the benefits of membership?
- Convenience for researchers who do not have to pay the full article-processing charges directly. This applies to any of the journals that currently have article-processing charges (see a full list of these journals) and which would otherwise make a charge per published article. Note that this will only apply if the submitting author belongs to the member institution and the manuscript is submitted during the term of the membership.
- Membership offers a cost-effective solution for organisations and their researchers when publishing in BioMed Central's and PhysMath Central's open access journals. The different types of membership offer various solutions to ensure organisations benefit from the most suitable and cost-effective pricing plan to fit with their requirements and budgets.
- The right to a 15% discount on institutional subscriptions to any of the paid-for value-added products BioMed Central publishes.
- The right to list all the relevant research papers generated at the institution on a specially created member's page on the BioMed Central web site, customized with the member's name and logo. The publications listed will be included in any searches performed on the PhysMath Central and BioMed Central web sites and will be linked to the full text of the articles.
